Aztek and Model Master Acryls question????
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, July 5, 2004 11:10 PM
Hi, I have an aztek airbrush and I typically shoot Tamiya acrylics and have NO problems..

Now, I am building a Fw-190D9 and am using Model Master acrylics.
The problem is that the Model master acrylics clog the tips REALLY bad and the paint flow isn't very good. I have tried thinning with 90% alchohol and also with the Model Master thinner and get the same results.. I am shooting at 20-30 psi..

Tonight, I tried Aeromaster acrylics with distilled water and got the same results.. It's almost like the Aeromaster is the same stuff as the Model Master.

I typically build armor and Never have a problem with my paints, but whenever I build luftwaffe aircraft and use these paints I have all kinds of problems.

I understand that Model Master has now come out with a "NEW" formula.. Should I try that??? Or does anyone have any suggestions on what I am doing wrong????Black Eye [B)]

Sometimes the airflow from the A/B will dry the paint on the tip of the airbrush cogging it.
One of two things you can try. Change the pressure from 20- 30 to 10-20. Sometimes the lower pressure will not make the paint on the tip dry so fast.

What I usually do is. Have a small amount of alcohol or water poured in a bowel with a brush dipped in it. When the brush starts to act like the paint is clogging up or spitting. I take the brush loaded with alcohol and gently scrub the tip with it. This will usually clear the offending paint and clear the tip for ya.

Just remember to do a test spray on a piece of paper or cardboard after rubbing the tip with the brush, or your first shot on the model will be mostly alcohol and dried paint ruining the hard work you put into the paint job.

Hope this helps
