Airbrush Upgrade Advice
Posted by saddler on Friday, July 9, 2004 4:57 PM
Im after some advice. Ive recently started a move into 1/72 scale armour and my 10 year old badger 200 simply isnt up to the task of spraying the complex camouflage .

Having looked on the threads on this board the two best options seem to be the omni series brushes any pretty much anything by Iwata.

Living in the UK though neither of these are viable options as brushes like the Iwata HP-B cost £155 ($288) and I cant even find any omnis over here.

My best bet seems to be either a badger 100 or a Harder-Steenbeck Evolution, both of which cost around £100 ($185)

Does anyone have any experience of either of these, especially the evolution or ideas of any other brushes I should consider?

I have both of the airbrushes you mention and both are great airbrushes. Here in the states the 100 series is one of the best values as far as what you get for the money spent and parts are cheap. Because of Badger costing so much in Europe, I would recommend the Evolution with the .4mm nozzle as it is more versitle in that it has a simpler head and nozzle design that works better and the fit , finish of the parts and operation are second to none. You might want to order one from Germany this site
http://fi-sh.de/ and others have the Evolution2 in 1 under 100 euros and the solo models around 70 euros with shipping to EU countries around 15 -20 Euro's. If you want the Badger 100 get the medium head assembly for it as the fine one will not spray model paint that good. Also consider the H&S Focus as it is the same airbrush as the Evolution without the Gold plated parts.

I agree with John, the Evolution is supposed to be an excellent airbrush.
I have not personally seen one but a friend of mine says that they are great and he has been in the airbrushing business for 40 years and even gave input into the design of the Thayer & Chandler Vega 2000 and Omni 3000.
