What's better? Alclad or MM Metalizer?

mike, you can use white aluminum which is what i use for my base coats, or just plain aluminum color. for panel shading, i use chrome and dark aluminum. you can also use copper (in light mist coats) and magnesium for different contrasts. you have to break out some major cabbage to be able to afford all these colors at once though. i have gotten my collection up to white aluminum, aluminum, dark aluminum, polished aluminum (i haven't used it yet), chrome, gray primer, and gloss black base little by little. i recommend the gloss black base by alclad over the krylon deal. gloss black base by alclad makes you want to slap on the decals after you get it primed, after a couple of coats, your kit will look bad to the ever loving bone!!! especially a mustang!!! later.

I need to try some Alclad II myself as I have never used it.
What shade of it do you use for P-51's, P-47's, and P-38's?
How about the metal portions of the F-15?

hey, one more thing, you don't have to buff alclad. top coat it with as many coats of future you want and this will make it look buffed. i usually buff the coat of future after it cures and it shines up like a new penny. another buffing metalizer is SNJ but i've never used it before. i hear that it stands up to masking and such very well too. later.

I asked some questions about MM stuff ust yesterday, checked the replies, and then tried some out on some scrap plastic I had kicking round on the floor.

Yeah, it looks pretty nice when laid down, and it buffed up pretty well giving a nice even finish, just the thing I was after.

Gave it the finger test this evening, and some lifted off.
Did the masking test, and it left big nasty bare patches all over the shop.

I'll go a long way to make sure the paint job on my kits is neat and tidy, but I wont tollerate having to handle them like a brain surgeon.

Alclad is the way to go IMHO!

I second that

alclad holds up to masking and such much better than metalizers do!! don't even look at mm metalizers the wrong way after they are applied or they may lift!!! alclad is worth every penny. later.
