Clear coating Alclad 2
Posted by gbritnell on Monday, July 19, 2004 6:56 PM
I just finished using Alclad 2 and the finish is great. My question is this: Should Alclad be clear coated so that it will hold up and if it is clear coated does it dull down like metalizers do?
Thanks

when i do an alclad finish, i like to do a dark grey wash to enhance the panel lines. the first photo below i didn't use a clearcoat and just futured over the decals after application to seal them. however, the 2nd photo i futured, applied the decals, applied the wash, and futured 2 more times and it looks alot better than the 1st one. they sit side by side on the shelf and i like the looks of the clearcoated stang better than i do the other. its hard to tell from the photos, but i'll always clearcoat with future from on the rest of my NMF jobs. but its personal preference. later.

well, i certainly didn't intend to hi-jack this thread by posting the 2 stangs but i appreciate the kind words darson a cirkili. both kits are the 1/48 scale tamiya and the decals came with the kit. tamiya has released 2 P-51D kits, one has Petie 2nd on the front of the box, and the other has Glamorous Glen as the box art. Big Beautiful Doll is an option that comes in the Glamorous Glen box. the P-51D is my favorite aircraft of all times but i have many, many "favorites" if you know what i mean, both axis and allies!! later.
