Using Alclad
Posted by Aaronw on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 2:24 PM
I'm about to use Alclad for the first time, what I'm wondering is, I've heard that with their Chrome you should put a coat of gloss black on first, then spray the Alclad over that. I'm going to be using the Aluminium so should I use gloss black first or will the grey primer be fine, it is going onto an aircraft model as the bare metal skin.

Thanks

Gloss black is the best way to go, I have heard horror stories about the grey.

i have primed with future when using aluminum and it worked out great. however, the gloss black primer is recommended for an undercoating for alclad metalizers. i'd use the alclad brand gloss black base, an excellent product thats easy to use. later.

There are a couple of really good articles regarding BMF in the Tool 'n' Tips section of

http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com

One is a Natural Metal Finish Paint Systems Test and the other is an FAQ by Tony Hipp of Alclad.
