I always recommend this product to those who either can't get or can't afford an airbrush. Testors produces a spray gun attachment that goes on the top of a can of air. It is mostly designed for use on large areas of paint (such as you would find on an M-113), but I have gotten this spray gun's uses down to a science. I have learned to do some really elaborate camouflage with it using masks. It also uses less air than a bonafide airbrush, but it can also use more paint if you aren't careful. The best part -- in the US it costs about $12-$15, including a can of air. If you can't find it where you are, it can be mail ordered. I find that I use this air gun almost as often as my airbrush. I mean, why use an airbrush to cover an entire airplane or tank in the same color, when you can get a more even effect with this gun? And, it's much cheaper to use than spray cans. I can get five or six 1/48 scale models out of one large can of Paasche air.

You might consider rattle-cans of spray paint as an alternative.

Otherwise about your only alternatives are to 1) Either mask the areas or 2) Brush them freehand. The quality of the edges if you do it freehand will, of course, depend on you. I can't paint with a brush and would not try it myself, however your abilities may be much better than mine.

Either way, if possible start with the lightest color and work toward the darkest color.
