Aztec AC200 or Badger 180-22
Posted by JIM77 on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 3:00 PM
I'm looking at powering a Badger 175 "Crescendo" with either an Aztec AC200 ($199) or Badger "Tornado" 180-22 ($230) compressor. I've done some research, and know that I'll need an adaptor with the Aztec, and both are in my price range. I need a moisture trap and pressure regulator, and both compressors can be fitted with each. Are there any significant positives or negatives to either of these compressors?

Thanks.

I have the AC200 & it seems to work fine for me. Just a little noisy because it doesn't have a tank, but tank compressors are much larger. I'm not familar with the Badger compressor, but the AC200 comes with everything you need, regulator & the moisture trap. The AC200 has the standard adapter found on almost all compressors, large and small. The adapter is probably less than five dollars, but you'll need to get the one with the bleeder hole since it is tankless. Even if you do end up with the adapter without the bleeder hole, you can always drill one into the side. Instructions on how to set up your airbrush for both types, tank & tankless, is included in the instruction booklet that came with your Badger airbrush. Now if I had to do it all over again, purchasing a compressor, I would probably go with a regular tank compressor from sears or home depot. Purchase a moisture trap, if it didn't seem right in the family room, set it up in the garage & run a hose up to my modeling table. Whatever you decide, this beats countless cans of air, both in convience & cost. Happy shopping.

How about the Thayer & Chandler Air Star?

I used one at the Nationals at the Badger booth and it was very nice and quiet.
