                        Have any of you used these paint mixers yet?


                        I picked one up at the Nationals and tried it out tonight and it is fantastic.
                        Stirring paint or shaking it is not even close to mixing the pigment the way this thing does. Thumbs Up [tup]

                        This thing works better than anything else I have tried.
                        I put it into a jar of lacquer thinner to see how it works and it created what looked like a mini tornado in the liquid. You can put it into a jar of Model Master that has settled and in about 5 seconds or so the paint is mixed very well.

                        I picked one up when I purchased my Omni. Like Mike said, it's fantasitic. Stirs the paint up really nice & really quick, then just run it in the thinner/cleaner bottle real quick & it's all cleaned up.

                        It retails for $11.20 but they were only $7 each at the Nationals.

                        You would have to slow it way down so that you wouldn't paint yourself. Big Smile [:D]
                        For less than $10 it's not even worth the trouble of making something in my opinion.

                        Josh,

                        You have to always remember to put it in the paint bottle and then turn it on.
                        When you are done mixing it then shut it off and then remove it.
                        You have to keep it submerged into the paint also as it will splatter if you try and mix too close to the bottle opening.
                        If you have it on when you put it into the paint or take it out, you are going to probably get a bath in paint. Big Smile [:D] Wink [;)]

                        I have been using one of those for years. It mixes the paint well, and keeps the lid dry and free of paint.

                        I have found in those paint jars that are not as full, that if I slowly remove the mixer while it's on in a fully vertical position, it will remove most of the paint in the jar through centrifigal motion. That way there is less to clean off the mixer. Only splattered myself once in the last 10 years. Blush [:I]Clown [:o)] Otherwise, I saved alot of paint that normally would have been washed off.

                        Thanks for the tip, I will have to try that.

                        I also know that other companies make these paint mixers also but I am not aware as to how well they work.
                        I talked to a guy at the Nationals who bought one of the Badger units from the table I was at and he told me that he had dropped his Badger mixer and broke it so he picked up a generic version somewhere else and told me that it was not near as good, so that was why he was buying another Badger one.
                        I don't know if the others out there have a different mixer on them or what so I can't comment on what this person didn't like. I am just passing on what he told me.

                        I've seen them advertised, but have never tried one. The little stir-thingys I make from music wire work for me. Might have to pick one up sometime though.

                        My wife purchased one to give me for Christmas. I sure do like it, although I did splatter paint all over the first time I used it. It was brain fade on my part.Sign - Oops [#oops] Do not have it running when you put it into the bottle.Banged Head [banghead]. It is very easy to clean up. Just insert the mixer in your thinner for the paint you were mixing, turn on, and walla, cleanWink [;)]

                        Hmmm! That little gizmo looks alot like the drink-mixer-gixmo I bought in a dollar store one day...since I'm in Peru, and since I can't buy the Badger mixer here, I'll have to see if I can "modify" my gizmo...if I can get it away from my wife, that is.

                        I've got a Robart paint shaker. Been really happy with it, it can handle any size paint bottle (those Vallejos really need shaking).

                        They make them in a battery powered and an AC version. I've got the AC version, didn't want to worry about batteries.

                        From what I was told shaking the paint does not mix the pigment into the medium near as well as mixing it with a mixer like the one we are discussing.
                        That is what Ken at Badger told me at the Nats when I questioned him on this.
                        I am not trying to discredit the shaker you bought by the way.
                        I was just passing on what I was told.

                        I read that in a couple of places too, when it comes to your model paints, they are to be "stirred, not shaken." That little Badger mixer does the job quite nice & quick. Beats stirring with toothpick, or straight sprue piece.

                        I can buy that shaking doesn't mix as well as using a mixer. Although I use a couple of agitators in the bottle, and I haven't seen the difference between that and using a toothpick or something. Also, with my clumsy hands the Badger would definetly knock over the paint bottle Sigh [sigh] . The Badger is also cheaper, if that is any consideration. With the paints that I use most (Vallejo), the Badger wouldn't work in the eyedropper bottles.

                        Anyway, the real upshot is since I started using a powered mixer, I haven't had any problems with streaks in my paint. And, if I take them down every month or so and shake 'em, they seem to last a little longer.

                        (BTW--MikeV, I'd never take any you said as a flame--you've done nothing but be helpful in these forums)
