Help! I need airbrush suggestions
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, January 4, 2003 2:37 PM
Recently my family and I moved 500 miles or so. In the process my airbrush and compressor were casualties of the move. I had my Badger 150 double action airbrush for the last 13 years. My airbrush was my absolute favorite tool that I owned. I don't know If I should replace my old one or buy a different model. I'm interested in getting some feedback to find out what others are using. Please tell me some of the pros and cons of your equipment. Also, if it's not too much trouble please try to include a ballpark price if possible.

I know this is asking a lot so thankyou very much for any and all help that you can give.

Thanks
Darren

I have several airbrushes. My favorites being the Iwata HP-SB (retail $275), and a Tamiya Spraywork (retail @ $200).
The Iwata is for detail work and can spray pencil line widths, the Tamiya is for large areas or general purpose painting.

The Iwata is a very nice airbrush but is exspensive. I use to have a Paasche double action which sprayed nicely but the body is fat. I use the Badger 150 which I think is a very nice brush. It all depends on what you are going to spray and what kind of details you want to do. The Aztek is a nice system because you just have to change the nozzle to go from wide spray to fine spray instead of switching nozzle, needle, and tip. A couple of months ago well more like a year ago, FSM did a series on ABC of airbrushing and the different kinds of airbrushes out there. You may want to check with FSM and see if you can get the back issue or someone you know who has the mag. to copy the article and send it to you. I have yet to read where someone has come out and said that one airbrush is better than the other. I beleive it is all preference. You can also go to the Badger website and find out how much to replace the one you have.

Happy Hunting,
Scott

I have been using a Badger 360 for a little while now and it is GREAT! Suggested relail is about $200, but some places have it for as little as $85... I got mine from Dixie Arts:

I really like this brush cuz it handles enamels, acrylics, and lacquers all the same with just one nossle.

I have a Paasche compressor with a regulator... And I also have a Badger 200, and had a Paasche.
