Tamiya paint equivalents

Is there a website with all of the Tamiya colors translated into the equivalent in Model Master paints? I have gone to a few of them to find colors for this Tamiya P-47D and can't find any reference to color X-31 anywhere. Confused [%-)]

Now I remember why I prefer non-Japanese kit instructions. Disapprove [V]

X-31 is acolor called "Titanium Gold". I checked ipmsusa.org for color reference links and none of the links has a match. To my eye a mix of gold and silver will get you close, probably about 50/50. If you go to tamiyausa.com you can download a printout of the tamiya color range. It won't be perfect but it should help.

(Originally, I said jet exhaust and silver. I came back to correct it but I noticed now that somebody beat me to the correction)

I guess I need to find good reference photos of the Thunderbolt and just play it by ear comparing the photos to the MM Acryl color chart.

the one big down fall of tamiya kits, they don't have good color instructions. and tamiya's colors usually ain't nowhere close to mm colors anyway!! good luck, later.

There is a website out there that gives paint conversions. I was looking a few months ago and found one that somebody sent me the link. I printed out a hard copy just let me see if I can find it here in my unorganized area. It looks like I left it at work. I am going to have to search the forum for PAINT CONVERSION. It gave me conversion for Tamiya to Testors MM and Humbrols and Gunze. I will see if I can find it and get abck to you.

Try this website, http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/colorcharts.asp If I remember correctly it is not a friendly user website but it maybe just me. I did find the conversions I was looking for there.

I have been to that site and it doesn't have an equivalent for MM colors with a lot of the Tamiya colors.

Mike, the colour Titanium Gold is just a very pale gold colour, (I'm guessing you are painting the oil coolers at the base of the engine of your P47?) If you mix some silver and gold together 50/50 it would be close. Don't stress too much as you will hardly even see the oil cooler intake colour on a P47 with the engine cowling fitted.

I am just trying to do an inventory of colors that I will need to do this kit so that I don't have to make multiple trips to the LHS for paint. Wink [;)]

I agree with Snowy, you can barely see the oil cooler intake with the engine cowling fitted. I wasted a lot of time on mine for somthing that is practically invisible.

Don't know if you have seen this or not. It is the only one I have found that has most of the MM colors listed. Just click the cross color guide link.

Can't say for sure if the color your looking for is listed exactly but it may get you were you want to go.

Glad I could help ya out Mike. The great thing about the site is. You can actually look up a specific aircraft and if it is listed. It converts the colors of the camo patterns to the models equivalant colors.
