Free shipping on paint?
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, August 16, 2004 3:01 PM
There are many places on the internet that sell small bottles of model paint cheaper than you can get it locally. But by the time they add inflated shipping costs, the price is actually the same or a little higher. I primarily use Model Master 1/2 oz. bottles of paint and also Humbrol 14ml tinlets. The cheapest price I've seen on MM paint on the internet is $1.90 ea., which is pretty reasonable. Humbrol is even cheaper, at around $1.40 for each 14ml tinlet. Does anyone know of ANY hobby supplier that offers free shipping on paint? I know several offer free shipping if you order is over like $150, but I don't plan on buying that much paint. Maybe $20 or $30 worth. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I'm currently paying a premium price of about $2.50 for MM paint, and my local supplier doesn't even carry Humbrol paint, so I'm forced to order it, but I don't want to pay $10 shipping on $15 or $20 worth of paint.

I think you're SOL on this one as most sites only offer free shipping on $100 orders or more. You think you pay a premium price? At my LHS I pay C$4.25 for MM and C$2.50 for Humbrol!

I don't feel so bad about paying $2.49 for MM now, only no one locally carries Humbrol.

I can't even find MM or Tamiya paints here in Midland....Have to stock up whenever I get to Dallas or Amarillo. All they have here is the Revell I used to use back when I was a kid.

If you just want some cheap craft paint, www.craftsetc.com is having free shipping on orders over $25 until Aug 22. I don't know how reliable they are, I just found them through google. They have some 2oz bottles for 44 cents! (under /Crafts/Paints ) They have Model Master paint 1/2 oz for $2.28. (go to toys & hobbies/ paint & accessories/ and search for "model master". Their catalog isn't very organized. =P)

http://www.scalehobby.com

Offers free shipping on most finishing supplies including paints. They're not the cheapest, however. MM enamels are $2.22 each.

Enjoy your modeling...

They have a Hobby Lobby in Midland I think, I looked it up on their site but they have been closing so many stores who knows?... they carry MM Enamels and Acrylics... not as many as a hobby shop but it's a halfway decent collection of the main colors... They also carry another brand of acryl but I cant remember which, it's decent though. Expect 2.49 a bottle.
