hi
this may sound like a dumb question, but im a newbie so here goes... :)

i bought some tamiya flat base by accisent the other day and was wondering what the hell it was? is it a primer or like a fllat overcoat?

You add the flat base to Tamiya's gloss paints to make them flat (or to their flat paints to make them flatter). Do not use it by itself as a flat coat! I've heard the results are pretty weird, like a white, chalky, blotchy finish. .

Like J-Hulk said, don't use it by itself. You can also mix it with Future and use that for a dull coat. Future is usually glossy, but mixing acrylic flat base with it will give it a clear flat finish.

yeah, and if you don't have white paint left, DO NOT USE IT AS A SUBSTITUTE!!! (I learned this the hard way)
