Tip for keeping paint bottle lids from sticking

Here is something I have been doing lately and it helps a lot.
Take a new bottle of paint or clean the older ones you have really well around the threads of the bottle and the lid. Then take a few drops of Badger Needle Juice or Medea Super Lube and wipe it around the threads. Screw the lid back on and it will help keep the paint from sticking to the lid threads just like it helps on the airbrush needle. I also put a little lube inside the airbrush color cup to accomplish the same thing there. It seems to make the color cup easier to clean.

I prefer heating up the top of the bottle until it expands more, then opening it, wiping off the paint, and putting a little vaseline there.

Josh,

At the Nationals I told Ken Schlotfeldt about putting some Needle Juice inside the color cup to keep the paint from sticking as bad, and he said that he had never heard of anyone doing that before, but thought it was a good idea.
I can't believe I came up with something that he never heard of in 12 years of owning Badger and 24 years of working for them. Big Smile [:D]
That was pretty cool. Cool [8D]

Does that needle juice cling pretty nicely to the metal and not run down to the bottom of the cup? I guess it works, otherwise you wouldn't keep doing it. Great idea Mike, really good thinking!

Josh,

Yes it clings fairly well as it is about the consistancy of sewing machine oil or thereabouts. I believe it contains Teflon as does Super Lube and that is what makes it work so well. Vasoline will also work on the jar threads but I don't know if it works as well as I haven't tried that.

Glad you liked the idea.

Mike, If using enamels or lacquers, would the lube in the cup contaminate the paint?

Rick,

No it won't and that is why it was formulated for putting on the airbrush needle, as it does not affect enamels, acrylics or lacquers.
