Alcohol works fine with Tamiya paints as long as you want a flat finish. I have found that alcohol will cause even their gloss paints to dry flat. If you want gloss, use their thinner.

Tom, I use Tamiya acrylic thinner for all my acrylics except Vallejo.

I've found that it works really well with Tamiya (well you'd expect that!), Gunze, Model Master, and Lifecolour.

HEY,
Thinner would be best, no matter what type of paint it is. I use denatured alchohol you can find at wal-mart in the paint section, but you can use the tamiya thinner with it. The tamiya stuff may work better with their paint.
