metallic spray

Banged Head [banghead] I just completed the chrome spray on an SB-17 to simulate bare metal. Now, I can't even touch the model because EVERY fingerprint shows on the finish, tape marks, you name it. I tried Future..didn't work. If I spray lacquer, it dulls the finish, and now longer resembles metal. Forget bare metal foil. HELP...
any ideas guys??

Alclad supposedly does not have those problems. I've got some at home but have only played around with it a little and can't say for certain whether that's true or not. I can tell you that Alclad is 1) Expensive; 2) Very thin and hard to get good coverage with.

I've also had good luck with Testors metalizers in rattle cans. They are pretty sensitive as well, but a coat of Future helps a lot. The Future dulls the sheen just slightly, but not a whole lot. The lower rear of the Phantom I'm building is done that way and it looks fine so far.

I agree with Scott, but, I prefer to use SNJ metalizer paint. There are two reasons. This paint is ready for the airbrush right out of the botle with no thinning, and it is dry to the touch within 15 to 20 mins. and fully cured in a few hours, I have masked over this SNJ and it is great. There is also an accompanying polishing powder that you can get, so if you want differing shades of NMF on an aircraft you can polish to a high "chrome" or represent dull aluminum, or anything in between. Alclad is fantastic stuff, but, if you want to vary your panels etc., you've got to buy all the different types (and they're not cheap) and then mask and shoot individual panels with them.
