Hi there Harry,

I have used quite a lot of XtraColour paint and have found that it thins down very nicely with Artist quality White Spirit.

Can't help with the cellulose thinners, sorry.

Cheers

You should be able to thin with either laquer thinner or enamel reducer if you don't want to use the thinner that the paint line furnishs or reccommends (It's a whole lot cheaper to find a thinner that will work with your paints and can be bought in bulk and if you're airbrushing buying those little bottles of OEM thinner gets expensive real quick). If you do decide to try another type of thinner be sure to experiment to make sure you don't get an adverse reaction between the thinner and the paint (you occasionally will get an adverse reaction - the paint will clabber like cottage cheese, paint will not dry or color will be changed etc)

I've heard of this range of paints. I used to get them at my old LHS. Yes , you should use lacquer thinner with these paints because if you use normal mineral spirits ("paint thinner"), they take forever to cure. Just be sure that you spray in thin coats.

What is the best solution for thinning specifically gloss enamels, do you use the same enamel thinners as for matt enamels?

The specific enamels that I am referring to are from a range called Hannants Xtracolour and they produce a great range of gloss enamels with references to the corresponding authentic colours used on aircraft (i.e. RLM, FS, etc) But I am unsure if these are available outside the UK, has anyone heard of this range?

The only reason I ask is that I read that cellulose thinners are good for this range of paints and they can actually reduce drying time, can anyone either confirm or deny this one?
