Primer Question

Fast hand motions and spray from a distance so you get light coats. Rattle cans have a lot of pressure and a lot of flow, and it's easy to lose surface detail with them.

Thanks. I'm spraying a Spitfire tonight and I don't want to mess it up. Can primer be applied with an airbrush? I don't think I've ever seen just bottles of primer (like paint), but then again I'm not sure if I've ever looked for it, so I might have.

Testors makes a MM primer, it comes in gray and white (and it's expensive...the usual $2.49 for a 1/2oz MM-sized bottle). I've used Krylon rattlecans in the past, but recently have been using MM light gray and it seems to work pretty well. Other people might have other/better advice.

You can also decant the primer that you buy in rattle cans. Swanny has some good tips on his site for this. He does it with the Krylon before applying a nmf with Alclad. Check it out here: http://www.swannysmodels.com/Alclad.html

you dont need coverage with primer, all you need is to coat the surface with microscopic amout of the primer so the paint bites. just a very light mist will do, we are not looking for color, just the actual presence of the primer. the primer in a bottle is designed to be sprayed with an AB and it also works great for filling small gaps. emphasis on small hope your spitfire turns out good
