Do you have to airbrush Alclad paints and the like or can you get away with brushing and buffing.

Scotty

You don't have to airbrush them but the effect just wouldn't be the same. In the past, I've tried to brush Testor's Metallizer Non-Buffing and no matter what I did, it just didn't look right. Ditto for the Buffing Metalizer. What I sometimes do is brush it on exhaust cans and this leaves a nice dull finish. Perfect for the exhaust but not much else. Hope this helps.

if it says airbrush only, do as it says. these are lacquor based paints, and we all know what happens when we put a really tyhick layer of lacquor on bare plastic

I have one bottle of Alclad and all I've shot with it so far are some test strips, so I don't have much experience with it at all. From what I've seen it is so thin I don't think you'd ever get it to cover with a brush.
