In a word, no.

Prior to going to Wally World, you really need to determine what your needs are. First and foremost is what size of booth are you going to be building? The size of the booth determines how much air you have to move. A small 2 ft. X 2 ft. booth face size is going to require a fan capable of pulling at LEAST 400 cfm. Walmart ain't got 'em. Stay away from range hood fans, computer fans (they don't pull a whole lot anyway) and any other fans that are not equipped with "shaded pole" motors, or have a "squirrel cage" fan set-up.
Walmart also does not have aluminum flex duct (at least ours doesn't here) that you'll need for your exhaust. Stay away from plastic dryer hose.
And don't build your booth walls out of cardboard or some other sub-standard material.

Bottom line: If you're going to build a booth, do it the right way. Figure your requirements, then go visit your local hardware store. In the long run, you'll appreciate the extra time (and money) you spent.

Bathroom fans are like range fans. You should really not use them. In addition, the cfm requirements of your booth are probably going to exceed the exhaust capacity of the fan. Remember that what you pull out of the booth has to be pushed out the duct. You don't want vapors accumulating inside exhaust ducting, or being trapped in "dead" areas of your booth. Second, if you have to wear a respirator while you're painting, the fan ain't pullin'.

If you want to build a toy, have fun. But remember that booths are used for two reasons: to prevent fires and explosions, and to reduce the potential for inhalation exposures to organic vapors and some pigments (like chromates). Building a booth improperly can negate both purposes.

I'd heed his word... you want something to do the trick.. not suffocate you or catch you on fire...

How big is your work area? what scale do you work with? how far from your desk to the window? you gotta think of all that before ya build... the farther you are from the point of exhaust the more fan ya need. You need a fan that will not spark.. brushless... the booth has to be big enough to accomdate your model AND your hands etc so you can paint around the model...

What he meant by toy is something that is there for looks.. not for keepin ya from brain damage or burns...
