Were you trying to brush over Tamiya Flat Black? That's really the only one that I've run across that will not allow anything to be brushed over it. Of course I don't hand brush very much so I could easily have missed some of them.

I've just gotten to the point that if I see that I am going to have to hand brush over the top that I refuse to use Tamiya's flat black. Model Master works OK, and failing that I'll airbrush flat black enamel.

I've never used water to thin them because of the surface tension of the water. If you add a few drops of dishwashing detergent to the water it'll break the surface. Also I've heard distilled water is better. I know Gunze acrylics thin well with water though. All I can suggest is to experiment a bit with some different mixtures and thinners. I always use Tamiya thinner and have never had a problem.

hope this helps.

I've heard someone here say they use a combination or water and windex to thin them... I've only brushed Tamiya once or twice but I'va always used the Tamiya thinner with them.. I know for airbrushing it's recommended only to use Tamiya thinner with Tamiya pain and I have found this out to be true.. not sure about brushing though. I would be afraid windex would eat into the undercoat...

hey all, im doing alot of brush painting (coz i dont have a compressor yet :( ) and hate getting brush marks in my paint, so i use very thin paints, and just put on a few coats. nbow the prob with this is that usually the verythin paint will take off the layers underneath. just wondering if i could use water to thin tamiya acrlys so that this wouldnt happen.... or could i maybe water down tamiya thinner or windex so its not as strong?

cheers!!
