Primer? or not to Primer?
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 11:40 PM
Is primer used as a base coat ? When does the situation call for the use of a primer? Sorry for the stupid question.... but my F4U Corsair is a very dark blue color and I was just wondering if I should put a coat of light colored primer on it before I apply the actual intended colors. Does any of this make sense to anyone?

The pros and Cons of primers have been discussed in many existing threads, which a quick forum search will produce.

The short answer? Primer. Every time. Primer gives the color coat something to bite into. Also, it helps to smooth over the difference in texture between putty and plastic and anywhere else you have sanded. Use a light gray primer for most colors and white primer for light and bright colors. My favorite is Gunze but you could also use Testor'sMM. BTW, there is no such thing as a stupid question.
