Cleaning Paasche needle & tip
Posted by knight667 on Thursday, October 28, 2004 5:22 PM
So far I haven't had any problems keeping my Paasche H needle and tip clean; I just make sure I clean up well after shooting whatever I'm working on. My question, though, is this: would it hurt the tip and needle to let them soak in a small jar of thinner? I read once that was a great way to get them clean, but it occured to me that the O-rings might break down from constant exposure to the thinner. Thoughts?

Depends on what type of -ring you got in the airbrush, if it is a teflon one than you can soak it without hassles..

I've got an H. I don't know if yours has the two rubber rings on its needle/tip/nozzle parts or if yours only has one on the nozzle. Mine only has one on the air nozzle, and that part never needs soaking. It's so easy to clean from the outside, I just leave that part on the airbrush pretty much all the time. Keeping the other two parts stored in thinner is ok, but no need to leave them in there for more than 24 hours. If you have the 2nd rubber ring, I'd keep it out of the thinner bath.

Once, I left the #5 tip in a jar of auto lacquer thinner for too long, and the tip of it became brittle & started chipping apart. It was weird, so the hardest lacquer stuff is good for a cleaning, but not a prolonged soaking.

Never store the nozzle in thinner, it will deteriorate the O-ring. Been there, done that! The needle & tip can be stored in thinner with no problem in my experience.
