Well, it appears that it's not a good idea, indeed! Ah, well, I've decided to chalk it up as a learning experience, strip the aluminum and start the fuselage paint job from scratch, but this time I'll spray the alclad on last.

I don't see why it should be a problem, except on chrome and highly polished aluminium. You can spray just about anything over regular shades of alclad, as long as its fully cured. Alclad actually make their own prismatic shades (in clear blue, red, yellow and smoke) that are designed to go straight over alclad. Just make sure the paint cures fully before you spray anything over it.

I'm eagerly awaiting the answer to this question myself! I recently airbrushed some Alclad polished aluminum onto a fuselage and after waiting overnight for it to cure, I began masking to apply another color, but as I was masking I quickly saw that the tape was lifting off the paint! What went wrong?

Alclad II question!

Got a question of a different kind today.

Has anybody tried spraying a clear color over Alclad??

I often replace gold color with clear yellow laid over chrome/silver, but haven't done so with Alclad yet and was wondering if it will work.

The clear color I am planning on using will be Gunze Acrylic.
