I use a 3M one, and it works great...can't smell any fumes. Ventilation is a big help, too, but my respirator's so comfortable, I forget I'm wearing it. Cool [8D]

That 3M in your link is a good choice. There are a lot of cartridges made for that mask. Make sure you get an organic vapor cartridge (usually colored black), and an appropriate prefilter. The 3m device has (if I remember correctly) a special holder for the cartridge or prefilter assembly.

Tankmaster, Willson does indeed make good products. Glad to hear it's serving you well.

cool thanks styrene, i knew u would come to my resuce, u do this stuff for a living right?
i think i understood what u said. so u say the ones with two filters (not the prefitler and filter, 2 actual cartdridges(left and right)) are the better ones 2 get
i checked out the web site n i think this is the one i should get (or something similar)

Well, I got a Wilson respirator, it's got to filters and a prefilter and all that other stuff. it came to 40 bucks, a pretty good deal seeing as it'll give me more years of life. I can't smell a thing in it. In fact, I can't even breathe! (just kidding on that last. Breathing is remarkably easy in it.)

Respirators used for painting should include cartridges to trap organic vapors with a prefilter to snag particulates. The best setup is a silicone rubber half mask equipped with 2 organic vapor cartridges and prefilters. They can normally be found in most hardware stores for about $20-$30. 3M, North, MSA, and others make great respiratory protective devices. If you can't find one at the hardware store, check out a safety supply house near you, or go to www.conney.com. They have a pretty good selection.

As far as facial hair goes, the moustache is acceptable; however, any hair that interferes with the face-to-facepiece seal, including beards, goatees, and long sideburns, should be eliminated prior to spraying. Data on fit testing is pretty much conclusive that facial hair can cause leaks in respirators, which tends to negate why you got one in the first place.

Hope this helps.

BTW, do a forum search on respirators...There are some pretty good threads on the feeding and care of your respirator--not to mention making it fit correctly, as well as when to change your cartridges.

hey all
my gf is gettig me a compressor for my bday (the one from ebay never got here :( ) and she was complaining that it only cost so much and she wanted to spend much more, so i told her to throw in a respirator coz she wants me to live longer :) now i have a few questions coz i dun wanna get the wrong one.
now ive been looking at them and see that theres 2 kinds, a single and double respirators. now would the single filter one be sufficient for airbrushing?
also, i need to get the filters for organic particles, right?
and i have a moustache and goatee? will this be a problem??

cheers!
