What is required to use home tool pancake compressor?

I have a really nice porter cable pancake compressor. 4 gallon I think.

I would like to use this for airburshing. What do need to build this setup?

Issues
1) Air hose connector I dont think matches airbrush.
2) Compressor contains a regulator. Do I need another one?

It's been too long since I built model and am really anxious to get back into it.
:)

thanks all!

most airbrush hoses should terminate in a 1/4" female connector. if the one on the compressor is 1/2" there are adapters to get it down to 1/4" at the local hardware stores... just explain what ya need. You'll need a 1/4" NPT male connector on the airbrush side. What airbrush do you use?

if you have a regulator it shoud do, I do recommend a hobby style pressure gauge which you can get from most stores that carry airbrushes or order it online from squadron.com or probably greatmodels.com, the industrial one will get you by until then though, you'll just have to "guestimate" what pressure you are spraying at as it is incremented in 4 or 5 PSI instead of 1psi.

I also recommend a moisture trap, you can get those at the hardware store where the air compressors are, the one I got at lowes cost about 19 dollars but I just saw it at Wal Mart for 11.95 so you might want to stop there if you have one nearby...

good luck!!!

Tho9900's got it nailed. I have a Campbell pancake compressor. It works great. The only things I could add are:

1. The Campbell compressor is pretty loud. My modeling room is in the basement. You could hear it all over the house. So, I built an insulated box for it. It doesn't run enough for heat build up to be a problem.
2. I had problems with air bleeding through the AB (Aztec & Omni) which caused the compressor to kick on a lot. I got a shut-off valve at Lowe's – in the same department that stocks the pipe fittings - and put it between the compressor and the regulator/water trap. No more leak-downs.

Happy modeling!!

cool, I have had that same problem, and while not really annoying as I just refill the tank, it would be nice to leave it sitting an hour or so and go right back to airbrushing... gonna go check out Lowes this weekend... thanks for the tip!

I leave my compressor on all the time --- the shut-off valve sure made my wife a lot happier..... It cycles maybe once a day when I'm not painting.

Some airbrushe hoses have 1/32" ends and you will have to purchase a adapter. 1/32" to 1/4" npt. can only be bought at a store that stocks airbrushes or at dixeart.com or one of the other web sales.

only if you buy the 350 kit (or any kit) made for an air can... the majority have 1/4" connecters for the compressor...
