Aztec results...

Just remember that illustration work like that is not done freehand.
It involves covering the drawing with frisket, cutting away an area, painting, covering up that area again, and then repeating the process on another area.
It is a lot of work and is much more masking than airbrushing.

yeah I noticed that on their site.. for the milkyway pic it was listed as only the planets being masked, and the stars and miscellaneous detail being hand brushed...

Man i hate masking so i would never be able to do that. I have done other stuff (Painted a cool concept picture of my future-pc case, modded out, and a 3/4 done picture of my flanker)

I got quiet used to masking, thanks, to the large figure kits I am doing.

Current kit I foresee 2~4 rolls of Tamiya tape being needed, plus one roll of the "pin-striping" tape range I use.

AB is definitely one of those very personal choice things. Take a look at the Brett Green's work at Hyperscale, he uses an Aztek and his work is wonderful.

There's been a lot of Aztec bashing going around, and I won't add my opinions, but I think just like any other physical object we use to help us model, an airbrush is only a tool, and crude as some may believe it to be, it still works.

Couldn't be a more truthful comment!

If you dont have the skill, you can have the best brush on the planet, and do a very poor job.
But on the other hand, give a skilled person the worst ab, and they will make it work.

I agree 100% and have said that here a dozen times at least. People think that having the best airbrush in the world is going to turn them into an instant expert and then get disappointed when it doesn't. They are ONLY tools, no more, no less. The creative part is in the hand that holds it.

Although I liek my 155 much better, I produced some of my best results with my aztek. (for example, that f-4e phantom i posted up a week or so ago.) stiil visible in the young guns forum.

I used an Aztek for a number of years with great results. I used to swear by it on rec.models.scale. However, when it became evident that the airbrush brokedown too often and it was nessessary to constanly spend money on new tips and sending it away for replacements/ repairs.....it was history. If the Testors co. would re-design and market a new airbrush with similar characterists to the Iwata HP-CS or Revolution CR, I would be sold. Until then, the Iwata line will continue to have my business. How do you guys feel about this?

As many of you know, after a 20-year sabatical, I began modeling again nearly two years ago and purchased an Aztec 4704 in a set with the mini-blue compressor. While the compressor has been religated to the storage shelf, the Aztec along with the original tips I purchased continues to be used. In fact, in two years I have not even begun to explore all of the capabilities - and limitations - of this airbrush.
