ModelMaster Acryl UK Suppliers
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 4:59 AM
Hey all,

I hope everyone had a great Christmas! Party [party]

I am trying to purchase ModelMaster acrylics in the UK but am finding it quite hard to actually get hold of some, does anyone in the UK have a regular source of these much talked-about paints?

Also, does anyone have any quick tips on minimizing clogging of the nozzle when using fast drying acrylics, for instance, would using a thinner paint mix be effective?

Cheers!

Hello, and I hope you had a good Christmas too.
On a sad note, you will find it impossible (don`t hold me to this) to find Model Master Acryl paints here in the UK. On a better note, you will be able to find Polly Scale acrylic paints, which are made by the same company as Testors (RPM company)
Hannants in the UK sell Polly scale.

On the clogging of the airbrush tip, you will find most acrylic paints will clog, so the best action is to keep wiping the tip with a cotton bud (Q tip to our cousins across the pond)
soaked with acrylic thinner. I find that Tamiya paint doesn`t clog as bad, as long as you use their brand of thinner, which contains alcohol. Failing that, Gunze make a product called Mr Levelling Thinner, which is supposed to stop the acrylic paint drying too fast. Keep and eye on ModelDesignConstruction in the UK as they sell most of the Gunze range.

Harry, as Dave has mentioned you might want to try Gunze Sangyo acrylics as an alternative to Model Master acrylics.

I've been using these for around a year now, and have far fewer clogging issues with these than even with Tamiya acrylics. just use Tamiya acrylic thinner.

MDC are great and don't change an arm and a leg for paints or postage.

I've just noticed that you a near neighbour at the other end of the A41!

Thank you for taking the time to reply everybody!

I think I'll be trying the Gunze Sangyo range as a couple of you have suggested although I do use Hannants very regularly so if Polly Scale is a RPM Company product, it should be very, very close if not identical.

One of the main draws to the Model Master range was that their paints are available in colours which have specific RLM references. Rather than having to bodge colours together using Tamiya's range.

As for the clogging, I do use Tamiya's own brand of thinner so I'll just have to make sure I regularly clean the nozzle.

Finally, a special hello to Karl up the A41! Thanks for the advice!
