8th Army Desert Yellow? Help!
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 4:39 PM
I AM BUILDING A 1/32 General Grant and want to paint it 8th Army Desert Yellow.
Humbrol use to make it, but they have changed the NAME, does anyone out there which shade is now correct?

Is there any other Colors available from other paint company's?

Tks,

Ionengine.

Model Master (by Testors) makes it. It's called "Afrika Mustard" FS 30266 is the FS number, I referenced it on http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_humbrolauthentic.htm and that is the same FS number for their 8th Army Desert Yellow so you should be ok with that!

The chart I use shows FS30266 as the equivalent of Model Master 'RAF Middlestone' (#2052). The color call outs from Italeri use this name/number for British North Africa vehicles. This is the site I use:

http://www.airmodel.sk/indie_eng.html

click on the 'colours' button on the left hand side to get to the charts.

and if you get an FS number you can go here to find out which MM paint it is...

http://www.testors.com/tes_cds/color_charts/1700_MM_FS.pdf

that is if you can get MM locally... if it is other paints I am sure there are some conversion charts around, including the ones Pete and I showed you... feel free to ask if you have a question!

Good luck!
