Well, I went out today and got this one. Works great and is powerfull enough to hook up some air tools. Ahh, Craftsman...

yeah, a good compressor would be the airstar V, some random assorted loud industrial compressor or maybe an iwata silverjet (new, anyone tell me anything bout it?_)

Most of the Craftsman compressors have 1/4" NPT fittings on them. An airbrush will usually have 1/4" NPT or 1/8" NPT fittings. Take your airbrush hose with you to Sears and see if it screws onto the fitting. If it does you are good to go, if not you'll need an adapter.

All of the Craftsman compressors I've seen do have a regulator on them, but I don't pretend to have seen them all. About the only compressors I know of that don't are the low-pressure airbrush only compressors.

Also add a roll of Teflon tape to your list. Wrap a layer around the threads of the fittings before you screw them together and they will be airtight. It's available in the plumbing section of any decent hardware store.

What about fiting the airbrush? I assume I could just get the proper adapters. Sorry for all the questions, but I am looking at a Craftsman compressor at sears. I want to be able to use it for other things beside airbrushing. I just want to make sure I have everything.

Yes, but they are a little expensive at Sears.
Lowe's, Home Depot and even Walmart have them usually.

for a compressor without a build in regulator, can you buy just any regulator, like a craftsman from sears?

I have said this many times before, but that is alright. Wink [;)]
Go to Badger's website as they have reconditioned Thayer & Chandler Air Star V compressors for $99.
They are very quiet, have auto-shutoff, a built in regulator/moisture trap and an airbrush holder on top. They come with a 6-month warranty also.

Compressor Pricing?
Posted by piflo1 on Sunday, February 6, 2005 11:06 AM
What is a normal price to pay for a small compressor? All of the compressors I have seen are fairly expensive. I should be able to get a Badge Whirlwind II for about $100. Is that a good one, and do I need a regulator with that? Thanks, as always.
