I thin them down with mineral spirits. I always use a coat of futere as a barrier though.

I future the model before I do an enamel wash because I use Lacq. thinner that the hard barrier in between the enamel and enamel wash keeps me from getting headaches

You can wash enamels with enamel, but don't use Lacquer thinner, it's too hot. Try mineral spirits as a thinner, & only use it as a wash. If you start any scrubbing, you could lift the base coat paint.

Pat.
Im not sure if that would work or not. What I do is use water color. Thin it down with water, add a drop of dish soap to break surface tention, and go to shading. Its easy to clean off excess, and it wont eat through your paint.

..... can use an enamel wash over enamel paint? and what type of thinner do you use for this? Im using MM enamels for my wash, because I have more color choices. But im putting this wash over enamels. So I dont think Lacquer thinner would work to good. Or would it with a good gloss coat underneath?
