Clearcoating question
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 8:37 PM
I'm thinking of spraying a layer of clearcoat over my b-17 and huey after i paint and put the decals on them.

What type of clearcoat would you gusy recommend? I only have access to tamiya spray paints. Will this suffice? I don't have an airbrush.

And, will sparing a clearcoat over decals not damage them in any way?

thanks!

Take a look at the topic The Complete Future in the techniques section. It will probably do what you want.

Most military aircraft do not have a glossy finish. Most are either semi-gloss or, more commonly, flat. If you want a flat finish from Future you'll need to combine some Tamiya Flat Base with it to give it a flat finish.

Decals work much, much better over a glossy finish. What most of us do is either use gloss base paint or a coat of glossy clear before the decals. Once the decals have thoroughly cured a coat of flat clear can be added.

Taimya website list semigloss & flat sprays as 'coming soon'.
