I new a sprayer that took the needle shield off a Turbine and applied thinned paint soaked onto a brush directly to the (plastic?)needle. Painted hair... literally but try doing a 7 inch dagger stroke to make a long strand of hair while holding a brush on the needle.

I have never used one but I have heard from numerous people that they are a pain to use as you said. Ken at Badger told me that you can spend a long time getting it setup just right to spray great and then set it down and come back later to find that it needs to be adjusted all over again. Banged Head [banghead]

Hey Mike! Thanks for the memory refresher on the Paasche turbine. I used one for a while at work, they require a LOT of attention and are very unwieldy.
