Model Master Enamel thinner?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 8:13 PM
I would like to ask my humble peers, (Cough/Cough) what have any of you found to be a suitable off-the-shelf thinner for airbrushing enamel paints? I just drove 120 miles round trip to buy a couple pints of Testors thinner and couldn't even find one 1/2 ounce bottle of thinner. I'm surely some of you folks have done the experimenting and know what's available at Home Depot or Lowes hardware stores. I trust the opinions found here much more than the hardware salesman.

Thanks.

all mineral spirits work. I've only had one brand (I don't remember) that came in a white jug that didn't work as well as the others. I just bought some Klean Strip mineral spirits labeled "Paint Thinner" a couple of days ago. I think it was $2.37 at Home Depot. That's 32 oz for under $3 when Testors is 8 oz for $9! Disapprove [V]

Mineral spirits works fine for me. Costs about $3 a gallon at Lowes or Hoem Depot.

ditto - mineral spirit from home depot or lowes works...

I get MM thinner rather cheap around here so I just use it but would (and have) used mineral spirits... it's in the house paint section...

Thanks all. I've got a can of Kleen Strip Mineral Spirits on the utility room right now. I wanted some of your opinions before I put it through my new airbrush and/or trash the paint job on my current project.
