extinguisher as air tank???
Posted by lolok on Monday, April 18, 2005 12:10 PM
Hi Guys,
I have a Werther compressor without tank as compressors are horrendously expensive here in Poland. I have seen an identical Werther but with 1 gallon tank attached and was wondering if it would be possible to add a tank from say an old fire extinguisher? A friend who works for an engineering firm said he will do all the grunt work if it can be done. The comp' has an inline water-trap and auto shut off valve fitted so I presume it will fill the tank and then shut off, needing only a pressure valve or combi-trap/valve fitted to the line. Yes/No or totally get out of here!!!!!!!!!. It's just a pain having to use the water traps bleed tap as an impromptu pressure regulator.
Thanks in advance fellas.

Lolok, I think the safest thing for you to do, is to contact a fire extinguisher company in your area and ask them the fesability of using that particular piece of equipment.
That is just myMy 2 cents [2c] worth.

hey mate!
good to see a fellow pole on the forums!!
i dont know how u could go about what u want to do, but i know for certain that plain ol air tanks can be added on to compressor, but thats if they fit....
the prob that i think ur gonna have is that the fire ext. will only have one inlet/outlet, while im guessing that comp tanks have a inlt + outlet for the air. but i may be wrong, this is just a guess!!

why dont u get a air tank, and then u could fill that up with the compressor, when its full, switch off the compressor and just use the tank? thats basically what i do with my comprsser with tank. let it run till its full, then switch it off, when its low turn it on again. if i dont do this it will switch on /off every few seconds...bloddy annoying!!

Lolok, I read a how-to on one of the airbrushing forums to do just this. I went back and tried to find it but couldn't sorry. As long as your not using more than 150psi it will be safe. You do need to cut another hole in it and do some fixture welding.
