I use a VL, and am happy with it. You can buy extra tips for them afterwards. I use a #3 tip for general coverage, but I bought a #1 tip and it is great for fine line spraying. But, now I find that the #1 tip does everything well, no real need for a #3 tip. But a #3 tip on its own would be fine for model making, you just won't get the finest lines out of it.

It might not be the greatest AB out there, but it does everything well enough and is a good introduction to double action AB's. It's fairly easy to clean, and works well for me.

hope that helps.

hey for 60 us u can get a badger anthem for dixie art.
i would reccomend this over the vl, as it has a one tip needle combo.
i have necver used a VL, tho i have a anthem, but from what i have seen it is a simialr type of ab to the anthem, except for the one tip n needle. this just makes it easier to work with i feel, as it can do everything from .5cm lines (maybe even finer, but i havent really tried to see how fine i can get) to large areas.
ive had my antme for about 6months, been using it for about 3 ( i waited ages for a compressor) andd am over the moon with the results! and i wouldnt hesitate to reccomend it to beginner, coz even tho its double action, its extremely easy to use and get great results!!

I bought a VL from dixieart.com. I use the number 3 for general painting and the #5 for spraying Future floor polish. I would be hesitant to purchase off of ebay. You never no what your going to get.

You could probably get away with just the number #3 tip, but the VL Set from DixieArt has a lot to recommend it. DixieArt provides free shipping on orders over $45 dollars, so the price might line up more favorably with the eBay offer. The VL set includes #1, #3, and #5 tips, not to mention a color cup with a couple of bottles.

I don't know how comparable the performance is between H tips and VL tips with the same number (totally different airbrush designs), but I find that my Paasche H #1 really seems to be the best tip for models. After experimenting you might well find that th VL #1 would be your best choice on models as well. And if you ever do a wooden display stand, you'll probably appreciate having the #5 tip for spraying on varnish.

I'm not familiar with the Paasche line since I'm a Badger user, but Dixie Art has them new for about the same price. The airbrush alone is $42 and the kit with the hose and everything (except an air source) is $65.

Im looking at buying a dual action airbrush and have been looking at the Paasche VL in terms of me being someone starting out needing a decent quality airbrush at a decent price. Looking on ebay there is a shop selling a Paasche for $56 US which seems ok. My question is whether it matters what number VL I buy. The on for sale is #3. Is that ok for model making??
