? for Mike V please
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 10:54 AM
I hope you might be able to take the time to offer your opinion. I currently own 1 airbrush, a Badger 200 (M) which is giving excellent service and I am not looking to replace it. Would you see any benefit in buying the other needle sizes or would that money be better spent on a double action brush. Thanks for your time and trouble and please anyone else feel free to chip in with your opinion.

I don't really see much need in the fine needle as you seem to like the results you are getting and the fine needle will just make it more difficult to get the paint to flow as consistently. If you want more control and the ability to spray fades and finer lines then I would go with a double-action such as the Badger 100LG or the Omni 4000.

I thought you might like to know that I ordered a new brush today from Bearair.
I have opted for the Badger150 Professional set (all 3 needle/tip sizes) - I will see how I get on with this and if at a later date I feel the need for a dedicated detail brush I will just have to spend some more money - I can't see this being needed for a while though! Thanks again for your advice.

There is someone in Oz that carries Badger brushes. I can't remember who it is but one of the other Australian modelers should know. I know Tweety1 uses an Omni 4000 and was talking about getting a Badger 100. You might send him an email and ask him where they came from.

Thanks Music City I will investigate further. The cost of the brushes here are likely to be quite high compared to the USA. I did recently get the colour cup for my 200 model locally and that was $25 AUS - so $60US approx $90AUS for the complete set seemed to good to be true........and it was!

The same 150-7 Professional set at Gianni's link (thankyou) is $400AU compared to $62.45US at Bearair. I believe the current exchange rate is about 75US cents per aussie $. No contest even with the shipping! But I still don't see why it needs to be that expensive - I don't expect nor need next day delivery a 2 week turnaround would be fine.
I have now asked Dixieart for a quote on shipping.

Sorry to keep bringing back the same thread (must like seeing my name in lights!!) but Dixieart have got back to me with a shipping cost of $24. This is a lot more do-able. If someone can explain the difference in posting costs I would be grateful as at this time I am at a loss as to why Bearair quote $60+ and Dixieart a much reduced cost. Both suggest they would send by USPS (is that correct). So the only decision left is do I go for the 150 or the 155 or the 100.
Choices choices!!

My guess is Bearair are probally quoting shipping by UPS where as Dixie is shipping by USPS"US postal service". With UPS there is customs fees added to the price. So you might still get hit with customs when the package gets to you.

Thanks jfrejo - we will have to wait and see. I have now ordered the same 150 set from Dixieart. I think this represents a good deal and will let you all know how I like it!
