Will paint thinned to much splatter when...

.first pressing the trigger button down?

I seem to have this problem, Im using MM enamels, thinned with lacquer thinner, but when I spray, it like splatters in the very beginning, and every subsequent time I depress the trigger. When I turn my air pressure up above 22psi or so, it doesnt do it as much, but i usually dont like spraying at that PSI level. I try to stay down around 18 or so.

Im using a paasche double action A/B.

Two things, the paint is too thin, and you possibly are not operating the airbrush properly. By that, I mean with double action you should first push down for air and then BARELY pull back to release paint, the golfballing you are describing will happen with properly thinned paint when the trigger is not under control. I recommend you try some acrylic through that Paasche, you might be suprised.

whoa, you can thin enamels with laquer thinner?
won't that melt the plastic?
If I knew that you can, I would have bought enamels a long time ago!

Careful fellas. Lacquer thinner used to thin enamels & properly applied with an AB won't melt styrene. But pure lacquer thinner will sure cause it to craze. If you brush paint with enamels use Mineral Spirits, because Lacquer thinner may affect the plastic.

hey im looking in2 trying this myself, and tamiya now sells bottles of their synt lacquer in big bottles, like their acryl thinners....
im hoping to acheive a paint with the same characterisitics as tamiya spray cans, only with enamels....
ipms4044: sounds like ur prob is too low air pressure, and the ab cant suck the paint thru...
not 100% sure, but i had the same prob, paint splattering, and it was coz i had the psi set too low....have u tried to thin the paint somemore???
