adaptor
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 4:33 PM
Can anyone give me a site or a place where I can find a hose adaptor? Specifically, i need to fit a 4mm male piece on my airbrush to a female piece on my compressor that fits onto bicycle tires (i'm estimating about 8mm)

Dixie Art (www.dixieart.com) has a lot of different styles of adapters for airbrushes. Badger also lists several on their "Accessories" page at http://www.badgerairbrush.com/access2.htm

A good hardware store should have one as well. Just measure and get the right size before you go and look. If you can't come up with something at the Home Depot or at Lowes, then you can always order.

So Continues Comrade Sergei's ill-fated quest to become an airbrusher. The makers of my compressor in their finite wisodm have seen fit to make absolutely certain that my compressor cannot be used for anything but to blow up car tires. So, now I'm looking for a hose with an airbrush fitting (4 cm female) on one end and a fiendish contraption known as a "quick release female coupling" at the other end. it is operated by sliding the ring back, placiong the hose upon to the male fitting located upon the compressor, and returning the ring to it's original position. I have included some pice. they will not help you, but I feel the need to take my anger out on something. BTW, the hole of the connector is about 14cm across.

QUOTE: So, now I'm looking for a hose with an airbrush fitting (4 cm female) on one end and a fiendish contraption known as a "quick release female coupling" at the other end.

Four CENTI-meter??? That's a big airbrush coupling!! The US standard for smaller compressors (and many not so small compressors) is a 1/4" NPT (National Pipe Thread) fitting. The base of the threads of the male part is about 12mm in diameter.

Scroll down this page:
http://www.badgerairbrush.com/access2.htm
a bit more than halfway and you'll see an adapter number 50-023. The bottom of the fitting in that picture fits 1/4 NPT threads and the top fits small Badger air hoses. I suspect this is something like you need.

The female QD coupling should be available at any good hardware store that carries compressor accessories. They are very common. I have about a half dozen in the basement on my air stuff. Here is a picture of one on Craftsman's web site:

What you've got is a standard compressor fitting...and here's what you do...

Since I don't see a moisture trap on that contraption...go to the auto parts store and buy an in-line, paper element fuel filter... 4 small hose clamps, 6 inches of rubber tubing, and a fitting that will fit your airbrush hose with a nipple on the other end. Cut the 6" rubber hose and attach to one side of the inline filter and clamp it. Connect the fitting with the nipple to that hose and clamp it. Then cut the yellow quik-connect hose and stick it on the other end of the fuel filter...then clamp it. Yes, it's clumsy looking, but it will work. I had the same problem for years on my first compressor.

The other option...drag your compressor and airbrush hose to an auto-parts store and ask the counter guy for help...chances are he'll get you fixed up in no time.

Ok, Sorry Jeff, but I won't be doing that. My parents are relenting and letting me get the compressor myself. yipee!! One small problem: Badger demands that the compressor have an internal bleed thing or else I will have to cut a hole in one of the parts. It says I have to do this when using a "non tank mounted diaphragm compressor". Now, I have found some compressors on line in my price range. they claim that they can be used with any airbrush, but I want a second oppinion. Here are some links:

Aslo, I got the standard badger hose with 1/4" adaptor. this should fit a standard compressor fitting, right?

Here's the note:

The 1/4" Badger adapter should fit on just about any small commercially available air compressor. In fact, I would bet that if you removed the coupler fitting in the compressor you currently have, you'll find that a 1/4" pipe nipple (from your local hardware store for about 19 cents)) will screw right in. (sorry I'm old fashioned, only use metrics when describing weapon size)

Actually Q, I had a compressor similar to that one (not for airbrushing) and the quick-release fitting was actually integral with the compressor itself. Kinda odd if you ask me, and of course I burned it up pretty quickly. I've graduated to a 40 gallon Campbell Hausfield in the garage...

One small thing, the second one you linked to is not in stock with hobbylinc.

Then i can check the manufacturer's site. But Do youn think it will work without a hole drilled in that part?

Ooh, and how's about this badger one? It's got internal bleed, but no regulatorSad [:(] But I can get another regulator 4 cheep, right?
http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/bad/bad80-2.htm

Would this regulator work with a badger compressor?
http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/pas/pasr75ar.htm

Actually, herne, the piece does come off.Black Eye [B)] I just tried and I got if off with a wrench! but there are still a few promlems:
1. The commection hole is a wierd size
2. i'D STILL HAVE TO BUY A REGULATOR FOR IT, CAUSE IT PUMPS OUT 150PSI!
3. i'd still have to drill a hole in that one part.
4. It hooks up to a car battery, not an outlet.

And does anyone have a site where they sell cheap compressors with air tanks built in? But don't tell me to look in a home depot or something, cause I tried and I'm sick of that. And make sure it's not too big, or my parents will get mad at it.

Sergei

Give this a try: www.harborfreight.com

They've got at least two compressors w/tanks for 70 bucks which might fit the bill for you. Just type aircompressor in the keyword box and you'll get 4 pages of aircompressors they carry. Hope this helps a little.

no that's just a pressure gauge for the tank pressure. You can get a standard commercial regulator from "that store that may not be mentioned" as well as Lowes and Wal Mart for about 15 dollars more or less. It's in 2.5 psi increments instead of 1psi like the hobby compressors but it works like that... just dial it till you get a pressure you like and note the number.

Tom

That particular model of compressor doesn't have a tank. I believe that is a combination regulator and moisture trap. It would probably work fine for airbrushing.

Edit: OOps, I didn't put the link in my last post. Now it's there, so take a gander if ya feel like it.
