Priming white metal

I have a metal paddle bladed prop for a P-47. What should I use to prime it? Should I do any other prep?

Make sure it is clean. Wash with mild soap and air dry. Wipe with a soft cloth and then prime with automotive primer. I use flat gray primer. After dry, wipe with cloth again to remove paint dust. It is now ready for you to paint. Apply the paint in small even coats. Do not try to cover it all at once.

For the spinner hub, do not paint. Use very fine emery cloth on that part. It will bring out a shine, looking like the original. How much you polish will determine the amount of shine.

tahnks Berny. Do I need to seal the hub to keep it from oxidizing?

Yes. Use Future to seal it with. I polished a complete prop around ten years ago and it took several years before it started to turn dull. I repolished it and sealed with Future and it is still like chrome.
