ahh yeah I see what ya mean now... try what Scott said, if it doesnt work a pair of pliers with the serrated jaws wrapped in tape should do it. I had to do that the a few times I took the very tip off my 155...

QUOTE: Hmmm... so is the crown-like tip not supposed to come off the head?

Yeah, it comes off. The entire tip assembly consists of three parts: the spray regulator, the head itself, and the tip. The tip is tiny and screws into the head assembly behind the regulator. The crown-shaped part is the regulator, as you indicated earlier, and it also screws into the head and goes over the tip.

The instructions say that the tip itself (the tiny little nozzle) is sealed into the head using beeswax. I'm not sure that they all are because I've had them come unscrewed before (you think PE parts are hard to find you should try one of them sometime!). What I meant was that soaking the assembly in hot water might expand things enough to get the regulator to unscrew, but it might also melt the beeswax and allow the tip to unscrew at some point.

Their parts diagram leaves a little to be desired....

QUOTE: I can take the head off the brush....it's the regulator I can't get off the head

Sorry, that'll teach me to read things closer. I've had that happen before. Usually they tend to loosen themselves up over time, but if you really need to get it off now about the only thing I can think of is a pair of pliers. I started to suggest soaking it in very hot water but then remembered that the tip (not the head but the tiny tip itself) is supposedly sealed with beeswax which would soften in hot water.

Mike - yeah the real wrench is the way to go. I've had to use one once or twice to get the spray regulator off my 155... just be gentle with it Wink [;)]

good luck!

The laquer thinner was a good idea and should have done the trick. If it were me I think what I'd try next would be to hose the spray regulator down with penetrating oil (something like WD-40). It will certainly need a thorough cleaning after that though. Then, instead of the little wrench supplied I'd try a "Real" wrench that would give some leverage. Like I said though, that's just how I'd do it. There's a chance you'll mess something up though, so be careful.

Have you ever had the spray regulator off before? If not there's a possibility it got cross-threaded from the factory or something.

The needle bearing is way back in the body of the brush and you'd normally never see it. I didn't think my Omni 4000 had one until I looked doen the back of the body with a strong light and saw it. It is aparently sintered in place and the reason it has a lifetime warranty is that it isn't replaceable by us.

Edit ... I looked at mine on the way out this morning, and a 9/32" wrench seems to fit pretty well although it's slightly loose. If you don't have one I'd take my airbrush to Sears (they have individual wrenches for sale) under the pretense of finding one that fits the head. When you find it just give it a good twist and then say, "Oh, well, guess I don't need it now!"

Badger 100LG parts questions...

Hey guys...I have some questions on my airbrush....

1. I can't for the life of me get the spray regulator off of the head for a thorough cleaning...I tried soaking it in lacquer thinner...I tried holding the little wrench on the head while i used my other hand to attempt to twist off the regulator...but no dice. It really needs a good cleaning... any ideas??

2. While looking at the parts diagram, I noticed there to be a Teflon Needle Bearing.....I can't find this anywhere....The diagram leads one to think it is directly behind the head washer that fits on the end of the head-- but I see nothing...am I missing something?? It says I can have free replacement at the factory only...but I don;t remember ever seeing it anywhere in the brush? Question [?]
