Badger questions.
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, July 4, 2005 7:34 AM
I think I might have damaged my Model 200M brush yesterday and I hope that someone more knowledgeable can offer an opinion. I was trying to spray Humbrol Gold enamel but the pigment I imagine is too coarse and I suffered a major clog. This wasn't clearing by trying to spray thinner so I decided to remove the head. I have only done this 2-3 times before over 14 or so years of ownership. I used the Badger supplied spanner but to increase my leverage held this with a pair of pliers (stupid I know). To compound my stupidity I then proceeding to tighten rather than loosen the head by about 90'. Clog cleared I reassembled the brush and found it to leak air around the head to body joint. A small quantity of Teflon grease around the threads of the head cured this and the brush performed as normal for the rest of the session. The indents on the head (flats for spanner) are now not at the 12 and 6 O'clock position as supplied but rather at 3 and 9 O'clock. So my questions are
1) Is this critical?
2) Am I likely just to have damaged distorted the washer or is it more likely that I have damaged the head and/or body threads?
and on a slightly different tack
3) Are the needles/head assemblies of the Badger 200 and 150 models interchangeable i.e a common assembly?
Thanks for your advise I really hope I haven't stuffed the brush.Boohoo [BH]Boohoo [BH]

If you have a Teflon washer between the body and head you have most likely flattened it. Some 200's do (most of the older ones) and some don't (most of the newer ones). Look at the parts on this page:
http://www.badgerairbrush.com/200sgparts.htm
I realize that's a 200SG but the other parts list is different and this list is typical of the older 200's. The washer is part 50-055. They are soft and easily distorted and I suspect that this is what has happened.

I own a 200G and I discarded the washer ages ago. I use a little beeswax around the thread which works just fine. Does the same job in a less sophisticated way than the Teflon grease I suppose.
