Normally, I'd say go get an air-brush, no question. In the case of the Constitution, since it is built of wood, if you are good with brush painting, any minor brush marks could really be part of the woodgrain effect. Again, that is provided that your are good at brush painting. Only you can really judge your skill. I certainly wouldn't bother with rattle cans, unless this is less of a full time hobby and more of a one time project. The cheapest, cheesiest, scariest AB that I ever used (Testors A220), out performed any rattle can that I have ever used both in terms of control and quality of finish.

AB can do enamels (loads of modellers use enamel),acrylics, inks and other paint mixes. They just have to be properly thinned.

If you paint in several thin layers, a spray can can be ok. Don't think that you need to cover the wholte ship in one pass, take your time and put on thin coats.

If you do want an AB, invest in a compressor and a reasonable single action AB.

The coat of an AB or spray can should be so thin that no detail is lost. Then you can paint the details with a brush.

I'm going to be doing a 1/96 Constitution, which will have the unpainted hull, and of course a thousand and one, tiny items to paint.
Now I've never used an airbrush, only ever brushed, but this thing need to be spot on, I want to display this one in the lounge!
So, the small items should "brush" without too much problem I think, but the hull?
Spray cans?
Or a used AB?
I also saw the thread for the Harbour freight ABs, $20 and a can of air, I can cope with, but I'm reluctant to spend a fortune, especially as I have no garage or shed, this will be sprayed in an old big TV box, with plastic over the front to keep the dust in.
Ideas or suggestion would be greatly welcomed guys.
Can an AB even do enamell? I think the revell paints are enamells anyway, likely I'm wrong again, lol
