touch up paint
Posted by bubbalicious on Sunday, July 10, 2005 11:52 AM
can u use wal-mart touch up paint as the main color? it seems to be the right consistency but will it be harmful to styrene?
I tested a little white the other day; i had not cleaned the color cup so there was a little bit of testors white thinned with laquer thinner in the bottom of the airbrush cup. it had a strange reaction and formed "strings ". I stopped immediately and cleaned the AB right away. Figured i'd ask if anybody has any experience with this stuff.
the brand is plasti-kote scratch color and i can't tell if it is enamel, acrilic or what.

I'm not familiar with the paint, but from your description of the reaction to lacquer thinner, I'd guess it's an acrylic. The label on the paint bottle should give you a clue as to the type of paint. If it says water clean up, it's definitely an acrylic.

that's the thing, the bottle doesn't have that but it does have "flammable" "harmful vapors" yada, yada. So i'm inclined to think it's a laquer.
