MM Metalizer sealer
Posted by tho9900 on Sunday, July 17, 2005 2:41 PM
has anoyone used anything BUT their Metalizer sealer with success? I just airbrushed it and buffed, I am wanting to do a wash to bring out details in the engine so I need to seal it first. Being Sunday and being there are some wicked thunderstorms outside I don't want to drive to go get the sealer... but I want to get some progress into this kit...

Tom, are you using alclad for your metalizer? if so, you don't really need a sealer, but i always seal mine with future just to be on the safe side. then i apply the decals, then another thin coat of future, then the wash and other desired weathering, and another final coat to seal everything in. i've used MM metalizer sealer before, but its been a couple of years ago and i can't remember if i did anything after that or not. good luck. later.

I-Beam - thanks! I was thinking future would do the job... just wanted to make sure before I messed it up...

Chris - wassup bubba!!! missed having ya around. How'd yall fare with this latest hurricane?

I use Alclad for my NMF's but on this one I was painting the engine of my FW-190 and used burnt iron... decided to polish the cylinder sleeves and leave the fins dull... wanted to wash it to get some definition in the fins...

i gotcha! sounds like a plan friend. MM metalizer sealer is lacquer based and you'll be takin' a chance with a mineral spirit base wash, but an acrylic wash would do fine.

as far as Dennis, no problems here. we evacuated and spent the night with some friends and ended up CLOSER to the dang thing than if we would've stayed put. we never lost power here where we live, but where i evacuated to we spent a miserable night in July in the south with NO AIRCONDITIONING!!!!Angry [:(!] oh well, you can't win em' all!! later.

Cool Chris - I was going to email and check on ya.. good to hear ya made it ok! I understand about the air conditioner bit.. last year we had a big downdraft (think pre tornado) come through and it blew a tree over on the wires... 18 hours with no electricity killed me!! Not to mention about $200.00 in food gone bad..

yeah I am going to go with the future mentioned above.... then I might shoot a semi gloss on top of it or even a dull mixed with a semi gloss... just enough so it doesn't shine...
