How do you schedule your painting sessions?
Posted by TryintoModel on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 3:01 PM
Do you paint (airbrush) pieces when you need to? Or do you try and get a bunch of pieces ready at the same time and paint in as few sessions as possible? Do you try and map out what you need to paint and what colors? Painting is such and ordeal for me to clean up afterwards, I don't like to paint just a few pieces at a time. But then I still forget to paint pieces sometimes when I had the brush out or even had the color already. That is annoying. I really need to get better organized.

Yes, I try to plan what I'm going to paint and get all the parts together so that I don't forget any. It still happens sometimes. I don't like painting more than I have to because the clean up time is about the same if you paint for 5min or an hour. Might as well get as much done a possible.Big Smile [:D]

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] I generally try to paint all assemblies that will be the same colour at the same time but inevitably this isn't always possible. It just seems to make the most sense in terms of mixing and cleaning up. I do try and plan my approach to a model as much as I can (building and painting) but that reflects my personality as much as anything else!

I used to get up to 10 models ready for painting and then have at it. I found I got very sloppy this way and lost concentration and focus after the 2nd one. Now I do 2 max at a time. It's more work but I think my quality is better that way. I try to work on setting everything up and breaking down in an orderly planned way then it's very smooth.

I tend to group things by color. I paint almost entirely with acrylics so clean up is not that big an issue, so I try to reduce the number of times I have to change colors during a session. I will group things like propellers which almost all are flat black, tires, and gear struts.

I try; but the 2tone stuff always ends up being a circle. only 1 model at a time. I do what needs to be done; without anything extra.

I try to save up until I have enough parts that need to be painted a similiar color, then paint them all during the same session, not only for ease of cleanup but also to be more efficient in using paint. Of course, sometimes a model ends up on hold because I'm not willing to bust out the paint for just one small piece.

I usually don't work on more than two models at a time nowadays. Like I-beam, I used to try and build multiple models at once (5-7) and had an assembly-line mentality. But i think the quality of the models suffered so now I am more patient.
