Help w/ Dullcoat, please
Posted by MA Cooke on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 4:03 PM
Hi everyone.

I picked up some Polly S dullcoat (on the recommendation of Swanny), but i have one question: is it to be sprayed straight out of the bottle, or does it need thinning? And if it needs thinning, what do I use - alcohol, water, Windex, etc.?

Thanks in advance!

Mitch

I have a bottle of it but havent used it, I have heard others say right out of the bottle. That's how I spray my MM and Vallejo dull coats...

OK, When I first got the bottle, it was good to go roght out of the bottle. (I personally added about 5% Tamiya thinner) However, as the bottle got older, I had to thin it more and more to get it to spray properly.

I've never had to thin it, I spray it straight from the bottle. If you should need to thin it, I'd do what it says on the bottle: "Reduce 10-15% with distilled water".

Avoid the mess and just brush it on thinly with a wide brush. Takes a few minutes and then just wash the brush in water.

Many people have issues with the rattle can clear flat. It's a laquer and can cause problems if used improperly. On the other hand many people have very good results with it. My one attempt to use it was a disaster and I never went back.

PS Flat comes in the same 1/2 ounce bottles as their other paints, and it costs about the same. In the $2.79 range.
