Silica Gel to reduce (water)spitting

One thing I tried that requires further investigation: In the damp Melbourne weather my airbrush starts spitting water quite quickly, so I tried putting a sachet of Silica Gel in the bottom of the moisture trap/pressure regulator. It seemed to slow the rate of moisture buildup and therefore spitting. I've only tried it once but this could be of use to someone. (You get Silica Gel sachets in new shoes and leather goods etc.)

I use a Paasche VL with a diaphragm compressor about 10 inches long. The clear plastic 'bulb' of my water trap unscrews so I can dry out the inside. There's enough room to fit a Silica Gel sachet between the bottom of the filter and the bleed screw at the bottom.

Has anyone tried this beofre?
