Decision on Light Ice Blue paint
Posted by Tigertankman on Sunday, August 21, 2005 12:00 AM
Hey

I'm early in my FlaK 36 build and would like to start finding out which paints I need. I want to do the scheme seen on the DML box, which leads me to the question, who makes a light ice blue acrylic, how much, and does the finished paint come out dull or glossy, looking for a dull finish. ANY replys answering this question are greatly appreciated...

Why an ice blue acrylic? These things were base coated predominantly Panzer Gray or Africa Yellow. There were, of course, camouflaged varieties, but the base coats are still pretty standard.
The cover of the DML box shows a panzer gray (PG) gun, shield, base, outriggers, and transport assembly with a dusting of what appears to be white or light gray as a camouflage pattern.
My suggestion would be to paint the gun PG, then slowly add white to the PG to lighten it a little. Then spray the gun again, this time paying attention to all the surfaces where fading would occur first. Then mix a little more white and spray the areas where the fading would be maximized. Make sure you mottle the spray pattern to allow the under coat to show through. Then add your wash and dry brush using Tamiya Sand or even Radome Tan. The 88 in my sig was done that way except I used Africa Yellow as a starting point over a flat black "primer". The Marder in my sig started out PG with increased fading, and a drybrush of sand.

Hope this helps you some.
