Shouldn't be a problem, huskerguy. I've used Testors canned enamel primer underneath color coats without any adverse effects. Just let the primer cure good and hard before spraying the color over it.

My favorite primer for parts that have been puttied, filled, or formed from diverse materials is Krylon's big old can of sandable primer. It's cheap, fast, easy and, if applied carefully, gives good, uniform coverage. For small or intricate detail parts where you only want a base coat, I stick with an airbrushed acrylic primer.

I have seen primers in small bottles at HobbyLobby and wondered if it was safe to airbrush them. I never have bought one as I was a bit concerned about maybe the primer etching the metal of my airbrush. Is it save to airbrush primer like that?

Thanks Glenn, i am breathing a little easier. I am going to put together a P38-E...the kind that was recovered from under 258 feet of ice, and i dont want to screw it up. I took a bunch of pix of the restored plane to get an idea of how things should look. I wont have the decals for it, cuz none have been made yet.

I've applied acrylics over enamels already and not had a problem. The key seems to be allowing enough time for the enamel to dry.

madda, Model Master has a gray primer in the small bottle. I have a bottle, but i havent used it yet. The primer i used was in a rattle can. I would think it would be ok to use the Model Master bottle primer in an airbrush...all their other stuff is airbrush compatible.
