Painting plastic to look like metal
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, September 1, 2005 7:25 PM
OK...I will be picking up my first airbrush tomorrow. I am currently working on a p-51 that I is supposed to be metal skinned. Needless to say the silver plastic just does not cut it.

What type of paint do you all recommend and what are the best tips for getting a realistic look when done?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Alclad! Alclad! Alclad!. Take a peek at this site www.alclad2.com. I have not tried it as of yet because I am still gathering materials, but I plan on making my F-101 Voodoo into a nice and shiny natural metal finish. Good Luck, I'd like to know how your Mustang turns out.

There is an edit button which you can edit your posts and avoid double posting.

There are a couple of different methods.

Foiling- You can cover the model in a foil such as Bare Metal Foil, aluminum foil, or silver leaf.

Painting- You can paint the model using a nice metallic paint such as Alcad II, SnJ, or Model Master Metalizers.
